This is going to fooking hurt!
2 and a 1/2 weeks to go and it is time to do the time honored tradition of a final full hour test. If you have been reading the blog you will know that I ran 45.3k about 8 weeks ago, only about 300 meters shy of the record. Well I have about 7 weeks of training on the track/aero under my belt and it is time to do another full hour test, this will also be my final full hour until the real deal. I am fairly confident, I have a few hours into analyzing power/speed data from the last few weeks of training, and it would appear I should be able to do this. My goal for the test is to run 1 full hour at record pace (45.75 kph) from a flying start. If I can achieve this this then I will be much more confident and relaxed going into the final 2 weeks. In theory the final 2 weeks will be about sharpening up, gaining a bit of speed an freshening up the body a tick. Basically if I can run pace for an hour today, then the next 2 weeks will build in a bit of a buffer to the record, that is the hope/plan.
Shit, why am I so nervous?
I guess being that this is my 2nd hour the novelty of it has worn off a bit, and the reality of the real pain I am going to induce 3 hours from now is, well, real.
This is going to fooking hurt!
I am not even going to write a line about what will happen if I have some sort of physiological failure today!
I am anticipating that I will run 1 hour at 45.75 kph and it will cost me 275w average, this will of course depend on the air density today. Last weekend I banged out a 20 minute effort at 303 watts and felt sort of under control, so riding at ~275w for an hour SHOULD be doable, not even a super stretch. Keep you posted on this…
